Process: Journal of Multidisciplinary Undergraduate Scholarship invites submissions for issue 4.1, On Failure. This issue is dedicated to work that explores how we understand failure, how failing impacts our lives, and how we might rethink traditional frameworks for failure. What does it mean to fail? How might the ways we imagine failure impact the ways that we interpret history, politics, or relationships? How have failures shaped our world?

We will consider submissions that engage with the topic of failure in any field, including creative and critical pieces. Potential submissions might address but are not limited to the following:

  • Failure in science and technology

  • National, international, political, or economic failures

  • Literary or artistic failures and flops

  • Failure and queer theory

  • Personal failures, failed relationships, or failing others

  • Failure and disability studies

  • Historical blunders

  • Disasters or epidemics

  • Failure and education

  • Failure and change

This issue of Process will focus on failure, but we welcome submissions on any topic. Be aware that general submissions, if accepted, will be saved for a suitable future issue at the discretion of the editorial board.

Please submit pieces for review by following the instructions on the Submissions page of the Process website: www.processjmus.org and include your full name and email address on the submitted document. We accept two general types of submissions: critical essays and non-traditional (or multimodal) compositions, such as poems, short stories, or digital artifacts. All traditional essay submissions should be 2500-5000 words and follow the appropriate disciplinary guidelines with respect to style and citations. Please include a 250-word abstract outlining project goals and how the contribution meaningfully engages ongoing scholarly conversations. For non-traditional submissions, please expand the abstract to 500 words that details the project goals and articulates how the work would meaningfully add to ongoing critical conversations in the special issue.

Questions may be directed to the editorial board at processj@uw.edu.
